The Seven Principles Workshop is for couples. It focuses on what makes marriages successful based on longitudinal research conducted on 3,000 couples. Through presentations, role plays and fun activities participants learn how to implement these principles into their own relationships. Creating a happier, healthier relationship is based on the Gottman’s Sound Relationship House model.

The goal of this workshop is to help couples: gain insight into their partner’s inner world and perspective; foster deeper connections, friendship, and fondness; and improve communication and learn how to address problems.
This workshop is psychoeducational and not psychotherapy. Therefore, couples who have needs related to abuse, domestic violence, addictions, mental health problems or aggressive or sexual acting out are advised to pursue individual counseling not this workshop.

The Bringing Baby Home Workshop helps new parents learn valuable skills to keep their relationship strong and fulfilling as a couple. Couples benefit and babies do too. The context for this workshop is the Gottman’s model of building a healthy, happy family using The Sound Relationship House.

Research has shown that babies who are raised by content couples more easily form healthy attachments. They tend to have calmer and happier dispositions. They are impacted in positive neurological ways that improve their social, emotional, and cognitive development both in the short term and long term. The Bringing Baby Home Workshop is based on 40+ years of relationship research conducted by Dr. John Gottman and Dr. Julie Gottman and their associates. This workshop is for couples who are pregnant, adopting, or who are already co-parenting an infant (0-3 years of age).

The Seven Principles Workshop and Bringing Baby Home Workshop teaches couples about The Sound Relationship House (Gottman’s model) and some basic interventions to help build a healthy, happy home. The Bricklayers Package Deal offered by Island Sound Counseling provides a personalized plan to further support parents as they move ahead to build a good foundation for their relationship and their baby.

After completing The Seven Principles Workshop or Bringing Baby Home Workshop through Island Sound Counseling, participants are welcome to purchase the Bricklayers Package Deal. This package is available for purchase immediately following the workshop (and up to 3 months after the workshop). Once purchased all sessions should be completed within the following four weeks (unless another time frame is agreed upon in advance with Island Sound Counseling). It is usually best to use this package soon after completing either The Seven Principles Workshop or Bringing Baby Home Workshop because it builds on what you have already learned during the workshop.
The Gottman Assessment (100 research based questions) will be used to identify your strengths and challenges and will include a printed summary of your results as a couple.
Initial Session - Includes a couple interview, brief overview of The Sound Relationship House, feedback about The Gottman Assessment, and a plan to address one aspect of a challenge area. 1.5 hours
3 Additional Sessions - 2 intervention sessions (1 hour each) focused on a plan and skill to improve a challenge area. Usually there is a suggested plan to practice this skill at home between sessions. The 3rd session is a 30 minute wrap up to reflect, ask questions, provide feedback, and explore next steps.
Sessions may take place at the Island Sound Counseling office in Oak Harbor, WA and/or virtually based on client preference.
If you prefer to receive services from the comfort of your home then virtual services are offered. Many clients find this option to be more convenient, easier to fit into a busy schedule, and prefer being in a familiar environment.
Virtual Workshops (The Seven Principles and Bringing Baby Home) are psychoeducational (not psychotherapy) and can be attended regardless of the state where you reside.
Faith and Rodney Franz are trained as Bringing Baby Home Educators. Bringing Baby Home Workshops may be attended in-person or virtually by anyone regardless of their state of residency. Bringing Baby Home Workshop is an educational training, not a therapeutic service. Bricklayers Package Deal is a counseling service. Clients who use this service must be served by Faith Franz in the state(s) where she is licensed or may receive this service virtually if residing in one of the states where she is licensed (Washington, Missouri, Michigan, Ohio or Indiana).

The Gottman Method for couples therapy includes a full assessment to identify strengths along with target areas that need improvement. Together we create goals and a treatment plan. Treatment Sessions focus on practical interventions and activities that build skills in the areas of communication, understanding, and conflict resolution. A resource folder is provided during the treatment phase so that couples can easily recall strategies learned during sessions and can practice them. This evidence based model is based on over 40 years of research and clinical practice established by world renown experts John & Julie Gottman.

The first initial 90-minute session is $1,400 and includes 2 individual sessions, Gottman assessment, Feedback session, and treatment plan.
Faith Franz is licensed to provide individual and couple’s counseling (in-person or virtually) for clients who reside in the states where she is licensed-Washington, Missouri, Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana. Clients from other states may travel to her office location(s) to receive counseling regardless of where they reside, but virtual counseling is not permitted unless residing in Washington, Missouri, Michigan, Ohio or Indiana.
Couples Counseling Fees
$1,400 Initial Assessment - Includes 1st session approximately 90 minutes, 2 individual sessions, Gottman questionnaires/assessments, a feedback session to review the assessment information and a treatment plan along with Gottman resource materials.
$200 per 90-minute treatment session-implement Gottman method interventions to target treatment plan goals.
$135 (60-minute), $200 (90-minute) individual sessions are offered to further support couples therapy and focuses on Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART).
